2.) Reception for Rev. Dr. Willie James Jennings at Interfaith Center

Willie James Jennings, winner of the 2015 Grawemeyer Award in Religion, has written a very important book: “The Christian Imagination: Theology and the Origins of Race.” Come meet our award winner and hear him talk about his book, which explains Christianity’s role in creating racial divides. Light refreshments will be served.

4.) Nominations sought for Outstanding Community Engagement Award
Deadline April 30
Nominations are now being accepted for the 7th Annual Outstanding Community Engagement Award. This award recognizes the exemplary community engagement activities of students, staff, faculty and community partners. Recipients will receive a crystal award, a $2,500 monetary award and their name will be added to the permanent recognition display in Ekstrom Library. Deadline to submit nominations is April 30. 5.) Faculty, staff discount for Chance the Rapper
April 16, 8 p.m., Louisville Palace (sponsored by UofL Student Activities Board)
Louisville rapper Jalin Roze will open the show. Tickets are available at The Louisville Palace box office and online through Livenation.com. Tickets for the general public begin at $32.50. UofL students, faculty and staff may purchase up to two $25 tickets either at the box office with a valid ID or online with a special code, “ULCARDS”. Listed ticket prices do not include ticketing fees.

6.) Fair housing conference is April 17
April 17, 9 a.m. to noon, Jefferson Community and Technical College, Health Sciences Bldg., 110 W. Chestnut, auditorium
Clearing hurdles in obtaining or offering safe places to live will be the focus of a free, public “Fair Housing Today” conference April 17 in downtown Louisville. The program offers two concurrent tracks. A consumer track will examine housing issues facing veterans, immigrants, refugees, domestic violence survivors, single mothers, low-income families and representatives of the LGBT community. A provider track for real estate agents will help with immigrant, refugee and race relations in housing. UofL’s Kent School of Social Work and Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission are sponsors.

7.) Former Kentucky Poet Laureate to give free reading
April 14, 2 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Archives and Special Collections
Former Poet Laureate of Kentucky Lee Pennington will read from his book “Songs of Bloody Harlan.” The reading is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. The event is hosted by UofL Archives and Special Collections.

Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend this training. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in. Attendees can pre-register at www.louisville.edu/dehs , however advanced registration is not required

9.) Give and Go! Move Out 2015, Lighten Your Load

Campus Housing and Goodwill Inc. are partnering together for the second year in a row to put on Lighten Your Load. A free store exchange will take place in the First Year Resource Center at Miller from noon to 3 p.m.. Stop by and pick up any free items or come by and donate yours. A special guest will speak at 12:30 p.m..

10.) Golfing for Global Health Fundraiser to be held April 20

11.) Offices collecting donated items for animal rescues

Spring is the time of year when the animal shelters are overrun with puppies, kittens and needy mama’s. They depend on donations to help take care of these animals. If you would like to get involved, contact us for more information and for a list of needed items. We will sponsor Hand In Paw Rescue and Shamrock Foundation.

12.) Updates in autism to be discussed

Parents of children who are on the autism spectrum will have the opportunity to learn about recent advances in understanding the causes and detecting signs of the condition from a UofL psychiatrist and a child psychiatry fellow on April 16. “Autism 2015: Updates and Roadmaps for Hope” will be presented by W. David Lohr, MD and Allison Yoder, MD.
