Neeli Bendapudi, PhD, has been selected as the next president of the University of Louisville. She has served as the provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Kansas since May 2016, and was previously the Henry D. Price Dean of the School of Business at Kansas. She is expected to begin her role at UofL on May 15.

They will present “Retention and Leadership through Diversity Innovation.” The competition, sponsored by CAPA, brings together professionals and students with “creative programs that advance diversity and inclusive excellence in global education.”

Meet the 18th president of the University of Louisville, Dr. Neeli Bendapudi. Bendapudi was approved by the Board of Trustees at a special meeting April 3. She is expected to start at UofL May 15.

Research!Louisville (R!L) 2018 will be held October 9-12. R!L is an annual symposium of health-related research at the Louisville Medical Center. Scientific poster competitions, lectures, workshops and an awards ceremony and keynote address will be scheduled. Stay tuned for more details.

Israeli Apartheid Week events

Join us for Day 2 of Israeli Apartheid Week where we’ll be hosting the film “Budrus” which discusses the nonviolent resistance Palestinians demonstrate for freedom from occupation. On April 6, the final day of the week, the film, “Occupation of the American Mind,” narrated by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, will be shown. Discussion to follow. Honors Student Council’s Carnville

An opportunity to relax before the dread of finals week sets in, Honors Student Council’s 2018 CarniVILLE will host a variety of carnival games and foods for students to enjoy. Admission will be free, and attendees will have a chance at all the cotton candy their hearts desire. Carniville will be happening right outside the Red Barn, where the annual Book and Media Sale will be selling books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and board games, with all proceeds going to Americana Community Center.

Nomination for Gold Standard Award for Optimal Aging just two weeks away

Do you know someone 85 years or older who is an outstanding example of what it means to age well? Nominate them by April 15 for the Gold Standard Award for Optimal Aging, an award given by the UofL Institute for Sustainable Health & Optimal Aging. This award recognizes adults of 85 years or older and who are outstanding models of optimal aging in the following four categories: physical, social, spiritual and creative. Nominations are due April 15 and can be made online.

Eating Awareness Training

Jazz-4-Sight: A concert to support the Jazz and Ophthalmology Departments at UofL
April 7, 6 p.m. gala, University Club; 8 p.m., concert, Comstock Hall; $50 concert; $140 Dinner, concert, and silent auction
Jazz-4-Sight is a fundraising concert to support the Departments of Jazz and Ophthalmology at UofL. Ophthalmology proceeds will fund research on the treatment of retinoblastoma, the leading cause of eye cancer in children. The event begins with a gala, and the concert features Doc Severinsen, American jazz trumpeter who led the band for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson for 25 years.

Eligibility: women currently using a combined hormonal contraceptive for a month or more Ineligibility: diagnosed with a psychological disorder, history of psychological or psychiatric treatment, pregnant or breastfeeding in the last three months, had a serious car accident, had a loved one in a serious car accident.
