    5.) Honors Student Council Book & Media Sale fundraiser

    April 9, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Red Barn

    All money raised will go toward Camp Quality, helping kids with cancer be kids again through its summer camp. Most items will be priced to sell at $2 or less. More than 20,000 books, CDs, DVDs, video games, board games and vinyl records have been donated so far. Free coffee and doughnuts.

    On behalf of UofL’s Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research, we are excited to announce that the digitization of our public history exhibit is officially complete and available at www.blackfreedomwhitealliesredscare.org. The launch date is also the exact 9-year anniversary of the Institute’s grand opening.

    7.) Discussion focuses on multimodal molecular imaging MS for biomedical applications

    April 6, 10 a.m. to noon, Room 038, Delia Baxter Research Building, Health Sciences Campus

    Dr. Philippa Hart, a Senior Scientist, Waters Corporation, Wilmslow, UK, will discuss mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) applied to a variety of biomedical samples. MSI has been gaining importance in clinical, ‘omics and pharmaceutical research areas. Full Spectrum Molecular Imaging is the combination of two ionization techniques with ion mobility separation on a single instrument platform and allows for the extraction of maximum levels of molecular distribution directly from sample surfaces.

    8.) Sutherland Endowed Chair in Glass Lecture Series presents Hayden Wilson

    April 5, 7-8 p.m., Cressman Center for Visual Arts, 100 E. Main Street

    Hayden Dakota Wilson is a second generation blown and cast glass artist from the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Western North Carolina. Hayden holds a degree in sculpture from UNC-Asheville and is currently the manager of the hot glass studio at Asheville Glass Center.

    The winners of the 27th Annual Provost’s Awards for Exemplary Advising are Matthew Church (professional advisor) and Dr. Kristopher Grady (undergraduate faculty advisor). Church and Grady will be honored at an RSVP reception on April 13, from 3-4:30 p.m. in Bigelow Hall, in the Miller Information Technology Center, along with the other award nominees.

    Stage One applications for the Paul Weber Award for Departmental Excellence in Teaching are due Friday, April 8. Each year, one department is recognized for innovative teaching, collaboration, and enhancement of student learning and is awarded up to $30,000.
