Belknap Construction
1.) Sidewalks to reopen this week as construction continues
Sidewalks on the west side of Brook and Floyd Streets between Warnock Avenue and Eastern Parkway are scheduled to reopen this week, while work on Warnock intensifies. It’s all part of a substantial renovation of the eastern entrance to campus. 2.) Nominations being accepted for the inaugural 2015 Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Engagement Staff Award
The Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality (CODRE) is accepting nominations for the Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Engagement Staff Award. This is the first year for the staff award and it will provide an opportunity to recognize full- and part-time university staff who have made notable accomplishments and commitments in the area of multicultural engagement while advancing the university’s diversity goals.

The Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Teaching Award is designed to affirm, value, honor and recognize members of the university teaching staff who have incorporated multicultural and global perspectives into their scholarship, teaching practices and research.

4.) UofL Day of Service is April 17
With the support of President James Ramsey and Provost Shirley Willihnganz, UofL is offering a pilot program called the UofL Day of Service, to be held this year on April 17. All staff members are invited to participate. Three sites have been chosen for this service opportunity. Participants must sign up (subject to supervisor approval); transportation, food and materials provided. While we are focusing this Day of Service around staff, faculty and students are welcome to participate if schedules permit. For more information and to register, click here.

9.) Feature designed to increase email security
IT has implemented a security feature in order to reduce the number of potentially harmful incidents against UofL’s email systems. This feature protects UofL by blocking compressed attachments containing .exe (executable) and .scr (script) files. Our concern is to defend against unseen malicious code that could infect the computer or network. For users requiring executable files as compressed files, simply change the file extension to “.ex_” so that it can be properly scanned for viruses.

11.) Women’s Center Donation Drive for the Healing Place ongoing
The UofL Women’s Center Donation Drive for the Healing Place (Women’s & Children’s campus) at 15th and Hill continues through April 30. The Healing Place is a residential treatment facility for women. Toiletry items can be dropped off at both the Women’s Center locations at Belknap (#4 Administrative Annex Bldg.) near Grawemeyer Hall and at the HSC location (#120 Instructional Bldg.), Monday through Friday. Students from the Early Music Ensemble of the School of Music will perform select works from the Cantigas de Santa María, a collection of Marian-themed songs composed in the 13th century by Spanish king Alfonso X. (Singers and musicians playing vielle, rebec, lute, psaltery, and recorders under the direction of Jack Ashworth of the School of Music, with brief remarks on the historical context of the Cantigas by Greg Hutcheson of the Dept. of Classical and Modern Languages.)
