April 8, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library
Free, public
From the Montgomery bus boycott to the lunch counter sit-ins to the Freedom Rides, New York Times best-selling author Lynne Olson puts a human face on civil rights struggle – and shows that the face was often female. In this free, public McConnell Center talk, Olson will discuss a few of these little-known heroines, exploring the relationship between men and women and blacks and whites from 1830 to 1970. Olson is a national bestselling author or co-author of six books.

13.) Those Angry Days: Roosevelt, Lindbergh, and America’s Fight Over World War II
April 8, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library
Free, public
In the McConnell Center’s Daniel H. Utley Memorial Lecture, New York Times best-selling author Lynne Olson recounts the internal squabbles that gripped the U.S. in the period leading up to Pearl Harbor. We often forget that America’s “last good war” was highly controversial at the outset, pitting interventionists against isolationists and skeptics, similar to the political camps debating American foreign policy in the 21st century. Book signing to follow public remarks.
