The annual Belknap Campus Ice Cream Social will be held August 15, from 2 to 4 p.m., on the courtyard of Grawemeyer Hall. It will feature Comfy Cow ice cream.

2.) Counseling Center closed on Friday
Aug. 12, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Cardinal Station, Suite 201
The Counseling Center will be closed on Friday, August 12 for off-site semester planning. We will re-open on Monday, August 15 at 8 a.m. If you are in need of a consultation, you can call the Dean of Students Office at 852-5787; in case of an emergency, you can call 911, University Police at 852-6111, Emergency Psychiatry at the UofL Hospital at 562-3210, the Hope Now Hotline at 589-4313 or the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800-273-8255.
3.) FY16 Annual Effort Certification Reports due
Deadline is Aug. 19
Annual Effort Certification Reports for faculty, project directors, graduate students and staff who expended effort on a federally-funded sponsored project(s) during the period of July 1, 2015-June 30, 2016 must be returned electronically to Sponsored Programs Financial Admin, no later than COB August 19. Responsibility for maintaining the original report with signature resides with primary academic unit/depart/school. 4.) Call for Gender Equity/Professional Development Award nominations, applications
Deadline for both is Oct. 7
Nominations and applications for The Mary K. Tachau Gender Equity Award and the M. Celeste Nichols Professional Development Award are being accepted through Oct. 7. The Equity Award goes to a member of the UofL community whose work has directly furthered women’s equality and gender equity. The Nichols Award goes to a UofL graduate or professional school student to support academic and professional enrichment beyond normal program expenses.

5.) Save the Date: Research!Louisville 2016 is Oct. 11-14
R!L 2016 marks its 21st anniversary of annual celebrations of health-related research. A variety of lectures, scientific poster competitions, and workshops will take place this fall at the Louisville Medical Center. The event schedule is in production. Keep up to date online. You may submit an abstract or volunteer for judging via the website. Abstracts will be accepted through August 31. This year’s keynote speaker is Linda S. Birnbaum, PhD, director, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program.

UofL and the Louisville Water Co. are collaborating to educate students, faculty and staff on the value of getting back to the tap with events, guest lectures and water filling station signs. Do you know where our drinking water comes from or the engineering behind it? Explore the political and global concerns around water or dive into marketing issues. Louisville Water’s story of science and public health brings real-world examples to the classroom and we’ll provide staff for guest lectures or tours.

Rangaraj Gopalraj, MD, PhD, U of L Assistant professor of geriatric medicine will present “Honey, Where Did I Park My Car?” Dr. Gopalraj will discuss cognitive aging.
