Some items available today will include: Chicken, pork, granola, honey, breads (orange dreamsicle, hot chocolate zucchini), peaches, raspberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cabbage, onions, okra, beans, cucumbers, apples, apple chips, sunflowers, zinnias, homemade soaps and lotions, Kentucky kettle corn. Lunch trucks: Boss Hog BBQ and Pollo. Louisville Water will be at the market providing their Pure Tap to go services. Stop by the mobile station, which is located near Jackson Street, and enjoy an unlimited supply of free ice-cold water. Cups will be provided; however, you are encouraged to bring your own reusable or refillable containers.

3.) Cards Under the Stars: ‘Big Hero 6’ and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Double Feature
Saturday, Aug. 29, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, first movie begins at dusk
Free admission
Grab a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler and bring the family for the last summer movie night of the summer: a superhero double feature including “Big Hero 6” and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Let the kids enjoy our inflatable park and games, “Big Hero 6” photo area and other activities. Bring a picnic or purchase concessions from Sweet ‘N Savory and POLLO food trucks.

6.) New Microsoft default browser Edge not certified for use with Blackboard or Tegrity
The new default browser, Edge, in Microsoft’s Windows 10 is currently not certified for use with Blackboard or Tegrity. Please use Firefox or Chrome if you experience issues using Edge. In Windows 10, you may also use Internet Explorer (11) found by searching for “Internet Explorer.” Visit Blackboard Help to test your browser for compatibility with Blackboard. You can also reference the Supported Technologies for End Users for more information regarding the support of your browser and operating system.

7.) It’s time to renew your parking permit
Parking permits need to be replaced by Aug. 23. Please look at the expiration date on your current parking permit. If your permit has an expiration date of 8/21/16, you should have received an email with instructions on how to renew. If you did not receive an email, your permit expiration date is 8/23/15 or you don’t have a current permit, click here. Parking changes for the 2015-16 academic year are listed in the announcements section of the parking website.

8.) TMS course spotlights ‘Simulation of Additive Manufacturing Technologies’
Aug. 28, 6 p.m., Hyatt Regency
The course is directed towards simulation scientists who are considering simulation of additive manufacturing (AM) processes as a career option, and engineers who need to make decisions about the appropriate types of simulation tools to use at their companies. Individuals from corporations that produce AM equipment, raw materials for AM machines, and design software and/or who use AM technology would also benefit from this course. The lead organizer for this course is Dr. Deepankar Pal from UofL.

10.) UofL part of Military Appreciation Day at the fair
Aug. 23, Kentucky State Fair
Military Appreciation Day at the Kentucky State Fair is Sunday, August 23. Discounted admission, reduced ride ticket prices, special activities and information booths will be offered to active duty and veteran military personnel. Additionally, the National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS) will host the annual Gathering of the Eagles Military Awards and Recognition Brunch, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, Athena’s Sisters, UofL Psychological Services Center and many community groups and agencies are acting in supportive roles for the event.

12.) Green Tip: Half-price state fair admission with free ride on TARC!
Headed to the Kentucky State Fair Aug. 20-30? Don’t drive! Use your UofL ID for a free ride to the fair on TARC Route 2 from downtown or Belknap and get in for half price ($5) while also avoiding $8 in parking fees. Buses run to the fair every 60-70 minutes from 6:30am-11pm. The last bus leaves the fair at 11:58pm daily. Look for buses reading, “2 – State Fair” along 1st Street downtown and along 3rd Street and Eastern Parkway at Belknap. TARC rides and fair admission are free for kids 5 and under.

The UofL KID lab is investigating how children of different ages think about information, people and objects. Participation involves a visit of 30 minutes or less to the lab on the Belknap Campus. Children receive t-shirts and other prizes for participating. IRB 14.0053.

Laura Smart, MD, UofL assistant professor, department of medicine, will present Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. She will identify risk factors which are leading to the increasing prevalence of NAFLD. She will discuss how to diagnose NAFLD and the role of liver biopsy. She will also discuss management of NAFLD and when to refer patients to a hepatologist. CME category 1 is available for both AAFP & ACCME accreditation.

This Friday, please join us for the a pediatric grand rounds featuring Kara Murphy Schmidt, MD, and Henry J. Kaplan, MD. Schmidt is an associate professor of pediatrics in the division of pediatric rheumatology and Kaplan is a professor of ophthalmology and the chair of ophthalmology and visual sciences at UofL. They will be presenting “Inflammatory Eye Disease in Children with Rheumatic Diseases.”
