1.) Igniting the Spark: Motivating student learning

Registration is now open for the 2014 Celebration of Teaching and Learning. This free, day-long conference for faculty will focus on ways to boost student motivation to encourage learning and will feature a keynote presentation by Ken Bain, PhD, author of “What the Best College Teachers Do.” Attend your choice of eight concurrent sessions and participate in an afternoon plenary session led by School of Music faculty and students. 2012-13 Faculty Favorite nominees will be recognized during lunch. Bain will also lead two pre-Celebration workshops on Thursday, Feb. 6. Learn more and register here.

2.) University Libraries Robotic Retrieval System will be out of service Dec. 18
Beginning Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, the Libraries Robotic Retrieval System server will move to a new virtual location. The RRS will be out of service the entire day. Material from the RRS will not be available during this time.

3.) New Distance Learning Library Services webpage
Distance Learning Library Services launches its new webpage on Dec. 18 complete with a fresh look, improved searching and content describing the services we provide for distance education. Some highlights of the new site include pictures of the DLLS Staff, an enhanced Item Request form to input up to five items, visible online Library Chat box, information about DLLS policies such as E-Reserves and password assistance.

4.) Make Your Voice Heard: Legislative Advocacy

These are just a few of the bills up for discussion in the 2014 Kentucky General Assembly. If you have ever wondered how the legislative process works and how you can get involved, join us on Wednesday, Dec. 18 for “Make Your Voice Heard: Legislative Advocacy” presented by Cory Meadows, director of legislative affairs with the Kentucky Medical Association. The talk is part of the Internal Medicine Didactics lectures.

5.) Graduate Student Advocacy Efforts during spring 2014 Legislative Session
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Jan. 9, Graduate Student Council Office, Houchens Building
The Graduate Student Council will work with graduate students across Kentucky to highlight our research efforts during the spring 2014 legislative session. GSC invites graduate students to make a poster about their research and bring them to the GSC office on Jan. 9 or 10. Please include your name and email. We will showcase them in the tunnel connecting the Kentucky State Capitol and its annex for one week. Health Sciences Center’s students can bring their posters to a location at HSC; email with inquiries.

The Delphi Center now has open registration for the University Business Training (UBT) program. The UBT curriculum provides individuals working with business processes at UofL with the training they need to be effective in their positions. This certification program focuses on university financial and human resource processes and is a blend of online and in-classroom training. 7.) Request for Your Input: Worksite Wellness Research Study

Support Get Healthy Now to better understand your perceptions of the wellness program and what factors affect a positive and healthy work environment for employees. Completion of the voluntary, confidential survey takes about 15 minutes and asks about your perceptions of workplace wellness. This is an IRB approved research study.
