UofL Women’s Center, lower level of the Administrative Annex Building
Help the child of a student parent to have a brighter holiday. Many angels are still available through the Women’s Center Student Parent Association Angel Tree Initiative. Call the Women’s Center, 852-8976 to schedule a time to come by and select an angel or two to help the child of a UofL student parent. Unwrapped gifts need are due by the end of the day Mon., Dec. 7.

2.) Discounts available for Project Management Certificate program
Earn your project management certificate from UofL Professional Development. This two-seminar program is based on the processes and knowledge areas in the Project Management Institute’s “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.” A limited number of spaces in the first (and now) second seminar are available at a 25% discount for UofL employees. 3.) Holiday gift giving made easy
UofL employees and students are able to buy individual and family planetarium memberships at out-of-this-world discounts: $20 for individual (regularly $35) and $40 for family (regularly $75). And, just like space, there is no limit on the number of memberships you can buy to take care of the folks on your holiday gift list.

4.) BRICC Coalition prescription drug toss event

UofL’s Building Resiliency in Campus, and Community (BRICC) Coalition, PAL Coalition, and the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) will host a drive- thru drug toss event. Unused or expired medications in the home can lead to accidental poisoning or overdose, as well as prescription drug abuse. Improper disposal of these medications, such as flushing or pouring it down the drain, can lead to water systems becoming contaminated.

5.) Louisville’s Parkland neighborhood history exhibit at Ekstrom Library

University of Louisville public history graduate students are presenting an exhibition “Parkland, West Louisville: Past, Present, & Future in an Urban Community. The exhibit uses artifacts, images, oral histories, and artwork to explore change over time in this West Louisville neighborhood.

6.) Dance Theatre offers free ‘Clara’s Dream’ preview for students

UofL students with an ID can enjoy the University of Louisville Dance Theatre’s free preview performance of Clara’s Dream, the familiar story of “The Nutcracker” from the time that Clara starts dreaming of snow and the land of sweets. Her dream takes the audience along for a joyful ride through fantasy.

The State of Refugee Health in Kentucky: From Flight to Resettlement, by Dr. Ruth Carrico. Kentucky receives approximately 3,000 refugees for resettlement each year from more than 20 countries. Ensuring their health requires a collaborative and holistic approach. Dr. Carrico will introduce data regarding existing health issues among refugees and offer an opportunity for open dialogue regarding interventions that address their needs and those of the local community.

Jin Amon, MD, will present Grand Rounds on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm in the ACB Auditorium. By the end, participants should be able to understand the impact of stigma on schizophrenia in China, identify characteristics and options for treatment of schizophrenia in China, recognize differences in treatment characteristics of schizophrenia in China vs. Western cultures, and discuss unique treatment challenges and opportunities. Medicine Grand Rounds features Jan N. Basile, MD, FACP, professor of medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Basile will present Resistant Hypertension: Tricks of the Trade for BP Control 2015, focusing on the definition of resistant hypertension, the clinical workup of resistant hypertension including the importance of 24-hr ABPM, and the importance of lifestyle modification and other therapies to improve BP control in those with resistant hypertension.

IRB #13.0923 Are you stressed? Is your child stressed, anxious, or worried? We can help! The UofL Developmental Psychopathology Lab is conducting a study examining the nature of worry and anxiety in parents and children. Parents and their children between the ages of 8 and 13 years are eligible to participate. Participants will be compensated $20 for their time and receive free diagnostic interviews, detailed feedback and a report outlining the results of our assessment.
