2.) Faculty nominations for UofL Athletics Association Board open
Due March 15
Nominations for the election of faculty to serve a three-year term on the University of Louisville Athletics Association Board of Directors are due March 15. Each unit without a currently elected member (all units except Speed, Medicine, A&S, and Music) may nominate one full-time faculty member. The primary role of the faculty directors is to serve on the university’s Committee on Academic Performance, which provides faculty oversight for athletics at U of L. The committee meets monthly to review and act on issues pertaining to student-athlete academic performance, eligibility, and well-being, as well as matters of compliance. As with other service commitments, no compensation is provided in relation to UofL sporting events.

3.) Free blood pressure screenings at GHN Healthy Hearts Road Show
Feb. 24, HSC Campus; Feb. 25, Shelby Campus; Feb. 26, Belknap Campus, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Know your number with free blood pressure screenings for all campuses. GHN is partnering with the American Heart Association in the fight against heart disease. In support of National Heart Month, we are offering free blood pressure checks, a City Café smoothie station, stress balls, health tips, heart healthy recipes, and fruit for your campus. Each screening takes less than 2 minutes. Giveaways and prizes for participation. Grab a colleague and come join us.

8.) Statewide tornado drill scheduled for Tuesday morning
Feb. 23, 10:07 a.m.
A statewide tornado drill will be held Feb. 23 at 10:07 a.m. The UofL Alert system will be activated to test our notification system, but buildings will not be conducting actual drills. To ensure that faculty and staff know what to do during tornado warnings, UofL has developed a training presentation that can be viewed online. Please review this presentation to be prepared for tornados whether on campus and at home.

9.) Welcome Week 2016 event guide submissions available
March 4 form deadline
If your office or organization would like to suggest an event to add to our Welcome Week 2016 schedule, please complete the form by March 4. Inclusion in the official event schedule is at FYI’s discretion. No events will be promoted if they occur at the same time as any signature/key events which are a priority for first year student attendance. We will do our best to accommodate as many requests as we can, as we build an overall event flow which is intentional and strategic.

12.) Lab Safety and Hazardous Waste training available

Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend this training. The Kentucky Student Success Summit stimulates conversations among faculty, staff and administrators on ways to improve classroom and instructional practices to enhance student success. This year’s summit features a session led by Betty Capaldi Phillips and Frederick Corey of Arizona State University. The Engage.Lead.Serve. Board’s Green Initiatives Committee is organizing the inaugural Cardinal Sustainability Summit, focused on environmental and racial justice. Sunday’s Summit includes yoga, keynotes by community activists, sustainability workshops, and networking with area student sustainability groups. Did you know that UofL has on-campus organic gardens and a greenhouse where you can experience the thrill of turning tiny seeds into an abundance of fresh, free, hyper-local food? Spring workshops/workdays are this (and every other) Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Garden Commons (Cultural Center), as well as a special April 20 Earth Day Workshop on getting back to the land.
