    Join Get Healthy Now and show your Cardinal spirit by wearing red for National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about women’s number one killer, heart disease. The first 100 participants to arrive wearing red at the Get Healthy Now Wellness Center will earn a heart-warming prize. Recipes, exercises and other educational materials will also be available.     Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States and the leading cause of disability among women, according to the American Heart Association. Love your heart and wear red today. Visit the UofL Women’s Center table in the SAC on the second floor near the cafeteria to receive Wear Red Day informational material, heart healthy recipes, exercise workout sheet, family tree risk factors and more.     3.) Reminder: University websites must upgrade to Plone 4 by June 30, 2014

    Departments have until June 30, 2014 to rebuild their websites in the upgraded Plone 4 system. The new system features tripled speed, mobile-friendly design, Adobe Flash integration and more. Register for Plone 4 training here. IT’s Design and Printing now provides services for creating, editing or migrating your Plone website using an OCM-created theme.     4.) Plone offline Friday night for preventive maintenance

    The Plone content management system will be offline for maintenance during IT’s regular preventive maintenance period.     6.) Reminder: Nucleus LaunchIt Training Program – Spring 2014

    6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 25 – April 29, The Nucleus conference room, 300 E. Market St.

    The EVPRI will offer a limited-competitive opportunity to assist full-time faculty, staff or students with partial reimbursement for the registration fee for the Spring 2014 LaunchIt Training Program. The deadline for the required pre-proposal is 4:30 p.m., Feb. 11. This program will assist entrepreneurs with startup and early stage companies. For deadlines and other details, click here.

    7.) ‘Valentines for Vets’ supports women veterans

    The support group for Women Student Veterans will host a “Valentines for Vets” event for women student veterans and women serving on active duty, reserves or National Guard as well as women staff/faculty who have served.     9.) Interested in clinical research?

    The Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation Sciences offered through the School of Public Health and Information Sciences is currently accepting applications for fall 2014. The Masters of Science curriculum integrates biostatistical and epidemiologic methods in a problem-based learning format with additional instruction in bioethics, health services and outcomes research and social and behavioral science. This is a great way to use your tuition remission benefit.

    10.) The Heart Valve Clinical Team at KentuckyOne Health Jewish Hospital performs 100th TransCatheter Aortic Valve replacement

    On Feb. 6, the TAVR team performed the 100th TAVR. The team consists of two cardiac surgeons, Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery’s Matthew Williams, MD, and Kendra Grubb, MD, as well as interventional cardiologists Michael Flaherty, MD; Naresh Solankhi, MD; and Steven Raible, MD. The Valve Clinic continues to gain momentum with more than 200 patient referrals since the start of the program in December 2011.

    11.) ‘Dismantling Barriers to Equity in Education: Best Practices for Educators, Parents and the Community’

    Pedro Noguera, PhD, will facilitate a workshop that will explore the barriers to the development of equitable and inclusive schools. Workshop participants will learn about barriers that incorporate a complex set of factors involving social, economic and political systems, and the way in which schools engage with children, parents and the community.

    The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) is conducting several studies on infant face perception and recognition. Infants who are between 3 and 7 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus.
