    Tuesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center at Humana Gym 601 Presidents Blvd.

    Exercise should feel good inside and out. Get moving with Intro to Nia to help you find health through movement. Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that corresponds with the main areas of the body: the base, the core, and upper extremities. Visit us at GHN Tuesdays in February from 6:30pm to 7:30pm to try it out!

    4.) First Annual Leukemia and Myeloid Malignancies Program Mini-Symposium

    The First Annual Leukemia and Myeloid Malignancies Program Mini-Symposium will present 15-minute presentations answering the following questions: What are we doing? What are we thinking? What reagents and resources are available to the leukemia research community here at UofL? How can we increase collaborations? Speakers will include: Drs. Donald Miller, Steven Ellis, Levi Beverly, Mariusz Ratajczak, Soumit Basu, Vincent LaRussa, William Tse, Janina Ratajczak, and Magdalena Kucia.

    5.) Women in the Ancient Mediterranean World lecture series

    The Liberal Studies Project and The Kentucky Society of the Archaeological Institute of America present Dr. Mary Lucas Powell, who will talk about Life and the ‘Good Death’ at Torre de Palma, Portugal.

     

    6.) Underground History: the Archaeology of African Americans

    Feb. 16, Noon to 1 p.m., Carnegie Center for Art and History, 201 E. Spring St., New Albany, IN 47150

    Free for UofL faculty, staff and students

    Jay Stottman, staff archaeologist with the Kentucky Archaeological Survey, will discuss archaeological sites that document African Americans’ experience from slavery to the development of urban neighborhoods. Stottman’s talk will focus on findings at Locust Grove, Farmington, Camp Nelson and urban sites in Frankfort and Louisville. The Carnegie is a member of A&S’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

    7.) What I Wish My Instructors Knew: A Student-Led Panel on Diversity and Pedagogy, for Faculty, Instructors, Staff, and Graduate Students

    Feb. 10, noon to 1 p.m., Room 204, Bingham Humanities Building

    While instructors often discuss diversity and pedagogy, we rarely (if ever) get to hear students themselves speak candidly and openly about what they need, lack, and value in the classroom. So this Wednesday, a diverse panel of students will share what they wish instructors knew about their lives. This event is ideal for anyone interested in improving inclusivity and understanding in your teaching; it can’t help but inform (or transform?) our practice. Hosted by the Cultural Center

    9.) The immigration history of Latin@s in the United States: How this impacts us today

    Feb. 17, noon to 1 p.m., Kornhauser Library Auditorium

    Prof. Enid Trucios-Haynes (Brandeis School of Law) will guide participants through why Latin@ immigration history is so important to us today. She is a nationally recognized scholar in immigration and her teaching focuses on race and the law, as well as constitutional, immigration, and international law. Among many other leadership roles, she leads volunteers in conducting “Know Your Rights” presentations at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Detention Center at the Boone County Jail.

    Alexander Ovechkin, MD, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Neurological Surgery, KSCIRC, Frazier Rehab Institute and Neuroscience Center, Laboratory of Clinical Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Neurophysiology, will present Respiratory Motor Function and Blood Pressure Regulation in Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury at this week’s Neuroscience Grand Rounds.
