    DID YOU KNOW?

    The University of Louisville Kornhauser Health Sciences Library will host a three- part exhibit on Civil Rights from February 2 to April 29. Exhibits, which are on display 24/7, will include the bus boycott; the March on Washington; the Selma march; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; and many other prominent events from the Civil Rights movement.

    2.) Growing Up Global: Celebrate compassion and diversity

    Feb. 6, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St.

    Free and open to the public

    Join the Ali Institute for Peace and Justice in a community celebration of Louisville’s compassion and diversity. The event will examine youth migration issues with a focus on Louisville youth, including documentary film screenings; youth panel discussion, and group discussions about how to address challenges and opportunities beginning at 1p.m. This event is organized with the Ali Center, Catholic Charities, and KRM, open to the public, and free with donation of youth-related items.

    3.) Volunteers needed to staff UofL Free Store (Spring 2016)

    Can you spare an hour to help run the UofL Free Store in Unitas Hall? We need your help to keep the doors open and offer a space for the ongoing free exchange of clean, durable items like clothing, shoes, electronics, appliances, household items, books, non-perishable food, bath/school/art supplies, etc. The store is open to all UofL students/employees and is run by volunteers (no special training or knowledge required). The more volunteers we get, the more hours we can be open to serve each other.

    Paul Simmons, Ph.D, Th.M, clinical professor, UofL Family & Geriatric Medicine, will present, Things To Like About Obamacare. Dr. Simmons’ presentation will cite reasons one might give to support the ACA and why; engage in reflective criticism of the ACA; isolate the ethical principles to bring to evaluations of social policy; and develop a personal ethic with social dimensions. Panitch is professor of pediatrics and director of clinical programs in the division of pulmonary medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He will be presenting about “Evaluation and Long-Term Management of Children with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.”

    9.) Children 8 to 13 years needed for anxiety and worry study

    Room 363, Life Sciences Building

    IRB #13.0923 Are you stressed? Is your child stressed, anxious, or worried? We can help! The UofL Developmental Psychopathology Lab is conducting a study examining the nature of worry and anxiety in parents and children. Parents and their children between the ages of 8 and 13 years are eligible to participate. Participants will be compensated $20 for their time and receive free diagnostic interviews, detailed feedback and a report outlining the results of our assessment.
