The seven-year Charting Our Course campaign officially closed June 30. Its success made UofL one of only 52 public universities in the U.S. to raise $1 billion. By April, the campaign counted 186 $1 million-plus donors, with the largest single gift totaling $33.3 million.

2.) Red Barn 45th anniversary celebration features reunion concert
July 11, 8 p.m., Red Barn (next to Swain Student Activities Center), doors open 7:30 p.m.
Open to the public; donations accepted at the door
The George J. Howe Red Barn is celebrating its 45th anniversary with a concert by The Tymes Band. Donations will offset show costs and benefit UofL students through scholarships and other programs.

July 30, 6 to 9 p.m., Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass

Be among the first to shop at the new Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass at a VIP preview shopping event that benefits the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. Guests will enjoy live music, light hors d’oeuvres, opening-night-only specials and the opportunity to bid on silent auction packages donated by Shoppes merchants. Guests will also receive a goody bag that includes a coupon book valued at $300 or more. Tickets are required and all ticket and auction proceeds benefit the JGBCC.

4.) Health Professions Education information program scheduled
July 29, noon to 1 p.m., Abell Administration Bldg., Room 414
This program is designed for health professionals who want to develop skills in teaching and learning. The program is also for those who are preparing for—or who currently hold educational leadership positions but who lack formal training in—education and human resource development. The program will provide busy health professions educators with a broad and rigorous foundation in the theory and practice of education.

5.) Diabetes and Obesity Center hosting a Flow Cytometry Bootcamp
Aug. 4-5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Diabetes and Obesity Flow Cytometry Core is hosting a Flow Cytometry Bootcamp with Excyte. This two-day course will cover the fundamentals of flow cytometry to provide critical concepts for the novice and intermediate user. This course focuses on the core concepts of flow cytometry—the ‘basics’ that every scientist using flow cytometry should know. At the end of this course, students will have a better understanding of the complexities of flow cytometry experimental design.
