In 1943, UofL law librarian Pearl Weiler (later Von Allmen) began to compile excerpts of letters written to her and others in the Law School, sending the resulting newsletter to alumni and others affiliated with the school who served during WWII. Last week, the Law Library added those newsletters to its digital collections.

1.) The Bard’s Cards features pre-show by A&S faculty
June 4; 7 p.m.; 7:15 p.m., talk; Central Park, 1340 S. Fourth Street; free
Join the College of Arts & Sciences and Kentucky Shakespeare for “The Bard’s Cards” this summer. In partnership with Shakespeare in the Park, A&S faculty will be giving special pre-show presentations for three productions, starting with Theatre Arts professor Kevin Grawley at “Two Gentlemen of Verona.” Wear red and show your Cardinal spirit or purchase a Bard’s Cards t-shirt when you register. Shirts will be available for pick up the night of the performance.

2.) Bioethics information session includes lunch, Q&A

Homecoming is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, and the Alumni Association wants to include your Homecoming Week event in our alumni mailer and/or on our website. 4.) Applications now available for Summer 2016 STEM GTA Mini-Academy
Deadline for applications is June 17
The STEM GTA Mini-Academy is a free, week-long series of sessions to assist Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) in STEM fields in developing knowledge, skills, and excellence in classroom teaching. Content includes understanding today’s students, using research about how students learn, measuring learning, designing activities, and practicing teaching.

5.) Speed entrance, Third Street parking lot closings delayed to July 1
The Eastern Parkway entrance to the parking lots behind J.B. Speed School of Engineering and the Third Street “green” parking lot will remain open until July 1. The two areas on the south end of Belknap Campus were scheduled to be closed June 1. For more information on campus construction projects, visit louisville.edu/president/special-programs/streetscape.

At this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of backward design and begin mapping out the process for achieving your summer goals. 7.) U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell to discuss memoir
June 17, 6 p.m., PNC Club, Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium; Free, open to the public
U.S. Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will discuss his recently released book, “The Long Game: A Memoir,” as a guest of the McConnell Center. The free talk marks the first book signing in Kentucky on McConnell’s national book tour. McConnell is a 1964 UofL graduate and is Kentucky’s longest-serving U.S. Senator. Tickets are free and required for admission; attendees must register online. A book signing and reception will follow formal remarks.
