DID YOU KNOW Schneider Hall was named in honor of Evelyn Schneider, a longtime University Librarian, and formerly housed the University Library. The cornerstone was laid on Jan. 12, 1956.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Smita Ghare, PhD, Instructor of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition and UofL Alcohol Research Center, presented at the Role of Alcohol in the Pathogenesis of Viral and Bacterial Infections symposium at the Research Society on Alcoholism meetings, June 25, in Denver. The title of her talk was “Alcohol-Induced Immune Suppression and HIV Pathogenesis.” UofL researchers, including Dr. Ghare, are funded by the NIH for their research on alcohol-HIV interactions.

HR 2017 annual leave adjustmentEach year, an annual leave adjustment ensures that employees do not carry forward more than two times the amount the employee is currently eligible to accrue. Any employee that has leave accumulated over their maximum will have their leave balance adjusted back to the maximum accrual amount effective June 30. For monthly employees, the leave adjustment will be reflected on the August paycheck. For bi-weekly employees the leave adjustment will be reflected on the July 28th paycheck.
Miscellaneous Street closures planned on Preston Street downtownIn order to tie in a sanitary sewer line, Preston Street will be closed on the weekends of June 25-25, July 1-2, July 8-9 and, if needed, July 15-16. Parking will not be available on Preston Street on these weekends, and vehicular traffic will not be able to pass from Muhammad Ali to Chestnut on Preston. All city-required signage and barricades will be in place on the surrounding streets and pedestrians will have normal access.

NSF websites, FastLane, and Research.gov will be unavailable from June 30 8 p.m. EDT until July 4 6 p.m. EDT. During this period there will be no access to these websites, proposals cannot be submitted in FastLane, and project reports and cash requests cannot be submitted in Research.gov. Previously saved information and uploaded documents in FastLane and Research.gov, including in-process proposals and reports, will be accessible after the Data Center move. SAC service drive closure continues through July 1The service drive beside the SAC along the railroad track will continue to be closed to traffic through July 1. As a part of the SAC construction, an air handler is going to be replaced, which means the basement cap in the service drive will be removed to get the air handler out and install the new one. Persons who park behind the University Club and in the red lot between the Red Barn and University Club should enter from Cardinal Boulevard (the gate will be up to allow access).
