DID YOU KNOW According to the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council, baseball games were played in Louisville as early as 1858, but the sport didn’t become popular until after the Civil War. On April 24, 1866, a team from UofL played for the first time at the “commons” on First Street.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Gerald B. “GB” Hammond, endowed chair in Organic Chemistry, has been named to the American Chemical Society (ACS) 2017 class of ACS Fellows. The class is made up of scientists who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in chemistry and have made important contributions to ACS, the world’s largest scientific society.
