    DID YOU KNOW?

    In 1951, the Southern Police Institute was founded at UofL. In the early 1960s, curriculum shifted to more instruction in police administration, personnel management, social and behavioral sciences and criminal and constitutional law and the SPI became the first school of its type in the U.S. to offer college credit for in-service police education.

    1.) Speed entrance, Third Street parking lot closings delayed to July 1

    The Eastern Parkway entrance to the parking lots behind J.B. Speed School of Engineering and the Third Street “green” parking lot will remain open until July 1. The two areas on the south end of Belknap Campus were scheduled to be closed June 1. For more information on campus construction projects, visit louisville.edu/president/special-programs/streetscape.

     

    2.) Cards Under the Stars kicks off tonight with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

    June 3, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, movie begins at dusk; Free admission

    Cards Under the Stars featuring “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” kicks off Friday, June 3. Grab a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler and bring the family for a fun-filled night of activities and a screening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Let the kids enjoy our inflatable park, play games and meet Star Wars characters. Bring a picnic or purchase concessions onsite at the available food trucks: Red Top Gourmet Hot Dogs and Sweet and Savory. Cards under the Stars returns June 24 with “Zootopia” and July 22 with “Inside Out.” Cards under the Stars is sponsored by Commonwealth Credit Union.

    3.) Next HSC Walking Tour scheduled

    June 14, 10 a.m., Abell Admin. Center, 2nd floor foyer; Free

    Get to know your way around the Health Sciences Center. There’s a lot going on. This tour is helpful to new employees and others on campus as well. Register online.

    4.) Asthma in older adults research study

    IRB# 13.0419

    If you have asthma and are at least 60 years old you may qualify for this longitudinal study that will examine the environmental and personal factors in asthma control. Participants must be NOT a current smoker or have other lung diseases. Participants will be compensated. This study is being conducted by Dr. Barbara Polivka.
