    DID YOU KNOW

    UofL is hosting 20 middle school girls this week for the Digital Media Academy day camp. The doctoral program in rhetoric and composition in the College of Arts and Sciences offers the free camp for students chosen from Lincoln Elementary Performing Arts School, Cochran Elementary School and J.B. Atkinson Academy for Excellence. Begun in 2014, the academy is designed to increase the girls’ problem-solving and storytelling confidence and technological competence.

    The Urban History Association has chosen UofL’s Cate Fosl as its Scholar-Activist of the Month. Fosl is a professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and director of the Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research. The Urban History Association’s blog about Fosl is available online.

    Staff Senate meeting open to all staff members

    June 12, 2:30 p.m., Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library

    The Staff Senate is the officially-recognized governance group for all staff members at UofL. Established to strengthen the bond between staff members, the Senate also participates in the shared governance process with administration, Faculty Senate and the SGA. Meetings are held monthly and the agenda is posted online.

    Annual Open Walls faculty/staff art exhibit

    June 12-29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Photographic Archives Gallery, Archives & Special Collections, Ekstrom Library, East Wing, Lower Level
    More than 30 UofL employees will display their artwork this year, from oil paintings to photography and woodworking. An opening reception is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. June 14 outside of the gallery.

    Dirty Glitter: Aron Kantor’s Queer Shorts Film Screening

    June 6, 7 p.m., Dreamland Film Center, 812 E. Market St.
    Join the Commonwealth Center for the Humanities and Society as we kick off LGBT Pride month with a screening of director Aron Kantor’s short films, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. He will present and discuss the ways he explores gender identity and queer sexuality through the cinematic lens of absurdity, metaphor, humor, and pop culture. Experimenting with shifting genres and contexts, his work thematically and aesthetically explores the intersection of opposites such as masculinity and femininity, high-brow and low-brow, grit and polish.     This webinar is designed to stimulate dialogue on ethical and regulatory issues in cancer research and promote awareness of developing policies and best practices. The Forum, sponsored by the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) and the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), presents educational programs and occasional deliberative sessions focused on specific ethical, legal and social issues involving cancer research.
