    1.) Paul Weber Award information session scheduled

    June 9, 2 to 3 p.m., Delphi Center (2nd floor, Ekstrom Library)

    Register to attend an informal information session to learn more about the application process and submission timeline for the 2014-2015 Paul Weber Award for Department Excellence in Teaching. The award seeks to foster and sustain a university-wide culture of teaching excellence by recognizing departments that demonstrate best practices in teaching and learning. Stage one applications are due August 15.

    This work is outside the normal preventative maintenance time to prepare for the transition to Exchange Online Protection (EOP), Microsoft’s anti-spam and anti-malware application. There may be a short delay in email delivery during the transition.

    3.) In Place: A talk by textile artist Dorothy Caldwell

    June 12, 6 to 7 p.m., Carnegie Center for Art and History, 201 East Spring St., New Albany, IN

    Free, but registration is required

    Textile artist Dorothy Caldwell explores place in her art by gathering earth pigments, plant matter and objects in remote landscapes and incorporating them in her work. Current practice includes fieldwork in the Canadian Arctic, the Australian Outback and rural Japan and India. Caldwell’s work is included in the collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the American Museum of Art and Design. The Carnegie Center is a member of U of L’s Center for Arts and Cultural Partnerships.

    6.) Surplus warehouse on limited schedule

    Surplus Warehouse, 1901 S. Floyd St.

    The Surplus Warehouse will be on a limited schedule until the end of June. The warehouse will be open 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for department selection June 11 but closed all other Wednesdays starting immediately. Departments may continue to send items to Surplus during this period.

    9.) PLAN workshop topic is online portfolios for a job search

    June 10, 4 to 6 p.m., Ekstrom Library W103

    What is your web presence like? Are you only visible on Facebook, or do you have a professional online presence? If you are going on the job market (or planning early for that distant day), the answers to these questions could set you apart from other applicants. This workshop will discuss why you should consider developing an online portfolio or posting an online cv, what documents or information should be included, and how even the busy or technologically challenged can build an online presence.

    10.) DEHS Lab safety and hazardous waste training and radiation safety orientation

    June 12, 9 a.m. to noon, Donald Baxter I Building, Auditorium

    Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend the Lab Safety/Hazardous Waste session, 9 to 11:15 a.m. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years. Individuals who will work with or around radioactive materials should attend the Radiation Safety Orientation session, which is from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in.
