Severe Weather Test
1.) March is Severe Weather Awareness Month
In an effort to prepare for severe weather season, we will be activating the UofL Alert at 10:07 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, to test our notification system. Metro Government will also activate the outdoor warning. While we will not be conducting a drill, but DEHS recommends that you visit the Severe Weather video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sfwUWaPg_4.

2.) Nomination deadline extended for 2015 Outstanding Performance/Supervisor of the Year
Due to weather delays, the Office of the President has extended the deadline nominations for the 2015 Outstanding Performance and Supervisor of the Year awards through Friday, March 13. The Outstanding Performance Awards recognize classified and professional/ administrative staff for their outstanding performance and commitment to service. The Supervisor of the Year Award recognizes staff and faculty supervisors who provide leadership in creating work environments that facilitate work/life balance, professional development and performance management. Recipients will receive plaques, a $1,000 cash award and a letter of appreciation for their personnel files. President James Ramsey will also host a luncheon in their honor. 3.) Film and Filmmaking in Kentucky II: Showing Work, Seeing Work and Building Audiences

The Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships of the College of Arts & Sciences and The Louisville Film Society will host the second symposium on Film and Filmmaking in Kentucky. The symposium is intended to provide an understanding of how more films can be seen, current practices in film festivals, the need of video artists, and avenues to more film production in the Commonwealth.

Due to the number of missed days this Spring 2015 semester, the last day to withdraw for regular semester classes has been extended one week to Monday, March 16.
7.) Women’s Center Staff Forum rescheduled to March 11

The U of L Women’s Center Brunch Forum (re-scheduled from February due to the weather) will take place on March 11. The forum is for women staff to meet and talk about issues that matter to them. Wednesday’s session will include a discussion on volunteer opportunities and Women’s History Month.

8.) PLAN offers workshop on literature searches
March 10, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Ekstrom Library Room W102
Conducting a comprehensive literature search for any large-scale project, such as a dissertation or thesis, can be a challenging endeavor, even for the most experienced researcher. This interactive workshop will focus on managing the research process at the graduate level. Participants will learn how to construct more productive and efficient searches, as well as track citation patterns over time. Grad students interested in attending can register and find more info on the PLAN website.

9.) University-wide Undergraduate Research and Community Engagement Symposium scheduled
April 14, 12:30 to 4 p.m., Shumaker Research Building, Room 139
The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation is sponsoring the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. Students, faculty and the community can discuss cutting-edge research topics, examine the connection between research and education and explore the broad range of research at UofL. 10.) Faculty: Explore how to think more deeply about classroom diversity
March 10, noon to 2 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Delphi Center
Students come to us with a variety of social identities and experiences. They enter the classroom – also a socially constructed space – to face you, an instructor with your own social identities and experiences. Considering these issues when teaching can seem overwhelming. Join David Owen and other facilitators from the UofL Inclusive Teaching Circles group as they lead a case-study approach workshop about exploring issues of power dynamics in the classroom and handling conflict.
