UofL’s Louisville Underground Music Archive (LUMA) was established in 2013 to preseve recordings, photos, videos, set lists, fan mail and other artifacts of the Louisville underground music scene from the late 1970s to the present. LUMA was recently awarded a grant by the Kentucky Oral History Commission to add oral histories to its collection. 

Michelle L. Baxter, a faculty member at the University of Louisville Schools of Dentistry and Nursing, is one of 30 advanced practice nurses in the United States chosen as a fellow of the Duke-Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Program. During the yearlong program, fellows will learn leadership and management skills to provide more effective and efficient health care services to underserved populations in their community.

Monday, May 1: The winners of the Grawemeyer Award for Education, Diana Hess and Paula McAvoy, lead a discussion with Central High School students.

Monday, May 1: More college athletics departments are using data analytics to make sure their student-athletics are performing at their peaks. Paul Jones and Alex Calder are the sports performance specialists at UofL. Cody Clark is a UofL grad with autism who’s now using magic to raise awareness about autism. Nariman Moustafa is a Fulbright Scholar from Egypt who has spent the past year in Louisville.
Wednesday, May 3: UofL Student Government Association President Aaron Vance. Former Louisville mayor, Lt. Governor and Obama Administration official Jerry Abramson talks about his career and UofL. Nurse practitioner Kari Moore talks about the upcoming Knock Out Stroke event.

 

This week: The Kent School of Social Work’s new dean, David Jenkins, took a circuitous route to social work and UofL. The director of UofL’s center for Asian Democracy, Jason Abbott, talks about North Korea.

 

Information Technology is in the first phase of implementing Microsoft Office365 services and products for employees. UofL’s go365 begins soon with a migration of all email and calendaring. All employee and sponsored Exchange/Outlook accounts will be migrated in groups starting next month into early fall. IT has a dedicated website for information as it becomes available and will work closely with Tier1 staff to assist everyone for a successful transition. Employees will be notified in advance of their scheduled migration date and will be able to find it on ULink under Personal Info. General customer service and technical support is available both before and after this migration date.

The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning announces an online course, Delphi U Online, to prepare instructors to teach online. Participants will learn two primary concepts: What it is like to be an online learner and how to effectively teach online. This is for full and part-time faculty planning to teach a new fully online course or enhance an online course between Summer 2017 and Summer 2018. Registration is now open and positions are limited.

We are looking for adults (ages 45 – 85) with hearing loss to participate in a research study that will assist us with developing an online program to educate people about hearing loss and help them self-manage their communication problems. Participants will attend a focus group, test our online training modules, or partake in a pilot study examining the effectiveness of the online program. Participants will be compensated $20/hour.

The UofL Health Sciences Center is seeking PAD patients between age 50-80 with and without claudication to determine whether Carnosine/Placebo supplementation for 6 months improves walking ability. Before leaving campus for the summer, consider two actions to conserve and save: 1. Make sure your office or lab won’t be wasting energy while you’re away; turn off lights, computers and equipment, set thermostats to 80, shut windows tightly, and unplug everything possible: empty refrigerators, chargers, coffee makers, printers, and all non-essential equipment. 2.
