DID YOU KNOW
The Family Scholar House is a UofL partner that provides housing for low income, single parents. One of its residents, Victoria Sledge, graduated from UofL Saturday with a sociology degree and has already accepted a position in Chicago’s school system. Sledge is the first in her family to earn a college degree.

Professor Lora Haynes leads a team of 11 students from UofL’s Resilient Families Project that has been working since last June to collaborate with members of the Flint, Michigan, community to plan and launch a Resilience Summit in Flint. Workers at the old Goodyear plant in Louisville’s Rubbertown allegedly got liver cancer from vinyl chloride. Pharmacology professor Juliane Beier is doing more study on the health impacts of vinyl chloride and ties to diet. May Music Festival with Michael Ramach.

Gray Street Farmers Market opens May 18

The School of Public Health and Information Sciences is happy to announce that the 9th season of the Gray Street Farmers Market will begin Thursday, May 18. The farmers market will be open every Thursday through Oct. 26, rain or shine, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on UofL’s Health Sciences Center. Our wonderful vendors sell the finest in local farm products including fruits, vegetables, breads, honey, canned goods, lunch and more.
SpeedUp Summer Product Launch Competition
May 16, 5-7 p.m., Duthie Center Room 225; Free
SpeedUp, UofL’s summer product launch competition, returns for its third year from May to July. Students will team up and build their ideas into products and companies that win them investors and prizes. Teams can choose one of two themes: open data or digital health and wellness. Competitors can either work on their own ideas, or one that’s provided.

UofL launches new online Certificate in Accounting
To meet increased industry demand, UofL’s College of Business recently launched its Online Certificate in Accounting, designed for professionals across all industries who have a non-accounting bachelor’s degree and want to pursue an accounting career. The certificate includes 27 hours of accounting coursework (21hr core courses + 6hr prerequisites), which meets the requirement to sit for Kentucky’s CPA exam.

Infants who are between 3 and 8 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus.
