    DID YOU KNOW

    UofL’s River City Rocketry team finished third in NASA’s 2018 Student Launch competition. Student Launch is an annual competition that challenges competing students to propose, design, build and test a reusable rocket that flies to 1 mile in altitude, deploys a recovery system and returns safely. 

     

    FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES

    After serving in the position on an interim basis, Tim Daugherty, DMD, has accepted the permanent role of associate dean of clinical affairs, effective July 1. Following a national search, the search committee, school community and dean selected Daugherty to lead the school’s clinical efforts. Daugherty graduated from UofL’s DMD program in 1984.  He worked in full-time private practice for more than 20 years, and joined the School of Dentistry as a part-time faculty in 2005 before transitioning to full-time teaching in 2008.

    UofL community invited to welcome Dr. Neeli Bendapudi on her first day

    May 15

    • 7:45 a.m., Grawemeyer Hall: The UofL community is invited to greet Dr. Neeli Bendapudi upon her arrival on campus around 8 a.m. We’re asking faculty, staff and students to gather outside Grawemeyer Hall to welcome her. Coffee and #WeAreUofL tshirts will be available while supplies last. Parking for HSC and Shelby Campus employees is available in the Speed School Blue lot.
    • 6 p.m., James Patterson Baseball Stadium: It’s #WeAreUofL night at the baseball game when the Cardinals take on Indiana University. The game is slated as a faculty/staff appreciation event and tickets for UofL employees are only $3 with ID. They are available online here using the promo code: UofL.  Arrive early to the game for a meet-and-greet with Dr. Bendapudi and watch her toss out the first pitch.

    Cards Under the Stars ‘Black Panther’ is June 1

    June 1; Activities begin at 6:30 p.m., movie begins at dark, Natural Sciences Lawn; Free
    UofL’s free summer movie series kicks off with  “Black Panther.’ Concessions will be available for purchase from SnoWhat Snoballs and Pollo. Families should bring blankets or lawn chairs. Sponsored by Commonwealth Credit Union. “Coco” will be the June 29 film, followed by a viewer’s choice film on July 27. Vote for the final film here.

    Old Louisville Neighborhood Council looking for volunteers for Central Park Spring 2018 Improvement Day

    May 19, Central Park, 8:30 a.m.
    The Old Louisville Neighborhood Council, Brightside, Olmstead Parks Conservancy and Councilman David James are sponsoring this event, which includes general cleaning up of Central Park, mulching, trimming, planting and some painting. Free coffee, hot chocolate, doughnuts and fruit will be available at check in. At noon, Councilman James will provide the annual barbeque lunch for volunteer workers. Public service credit is available.

    Hepatitis A vaccine available at Campus Health Services on HSC

    UofL students, staff, faculty, retirees and their spouses (only), can get the Hepatitis A vaccine on a walk-in basis at the Campus Health Services HSC clinic, 401 E. Chestnut, Ste 110. This will be billed to your medical insurance policy. Bring your UofL id and insurance card for processing. View clinic hours online. The required forms, which need to be printed, are also available online.

    Polo for a Purpose to benefit Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease research at UofL

    May 17, gates open at 6 p.m.; twilight polo begins at 7 p.m., Oxmoor Farm, 720 Oxmoor Lane
    Polo for a Purpose, hosted by the Louisville Polo Club, is Thursday at Oxmoor Farm. Admission is free. The event will also include live music, and food and cocktails will be available for purchase. High Goaler VIP suites are available for $50/person, and includes cocktails, champagne and food, lounge seating and a premium view. Tickets are available online.     UofL Men’s and Women’s Golf teams hosting one-day golf camp

    June 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., UofL Golf Club; $175 (a 20% discount available to dependents of UofL employees)
    Louisville Men’s and Women’s Golf are offering a one-day golf camp this summer. The camp is designed to help aspiring golfers of various abilities improve their games; we will also discuss what it takes to be a collegiate golfer and how to get there. The camp is offered to boys and girls ages 7-18 and held at the University of Louisville Golf Club. It will be overseen and instructed by Head Coach Courtney Trimble, Associate Head Men’s Golf Coach Aaron O’Callaghan, the Louisville Women’s Golf staff and collegiate players.
