1.) The Get Healthy Now Wellness Center closed for Oaks/Derby
The GHN Wellness Center will close early on Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m., and will be closed on Saturday, May 7, in observance of the Kentucky Oaks and Derby. Normal hours of operation will resume Sunday, May 8 (12-5 p.m.).

2.) Who says Functional Fitness can’t be fun?
Saturdays, 9:30-10:15 a.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center, Humana Gym; Free for GHN Wellness Center members
Functional fitness focuses on core fitness that can easily translate into daily activities and incorporates all of the major muscle groups as well as the muscles you never knew you had. You will get efficient quality functional movements that will enhance and nourish your spine, revitalize your postural muscles and strengthen your core with every movement. Exercises are shown at different skill levels so each person can work to their own individual competency.

4.) Pathways scholarship deadline extended
Deadline May 10; event May 20, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Founders’ Union, Shelby Campus; $99
The 4th annual UofL Pathways Women’s Leadership Conference scholarship (half- price registration) has been extended to Tuesday, May 10. The full-day conference will be held Friday, May 20. The program will include presentations by local and national leaders with a focus on leadership wayfinding, knowing which way to go at the crossroads. Scholarship form and registration are available on the conference website.

5.) Cardinal Tennis Camps scheduled in June
June 20, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., UofL Bass-Rudd Tennis Center; $350 for 5 days
The University of Louisville offers young tennis players a high quality
opportunity to come to a college campus to learn, improve, make
new friends, and have fun. Improvement is guaranteed because
each camper is instructed for at least 6 hours per day by
experienced coaches who know and play the game at the top level. Coach Rex Ecarma invites juniors aged 7 to 18 to his Cardinal Tennis Camps. Children of UofL staff receive a discount on the camp fee. There are three camps this summer, June 20-29. Overnight camp is July 25-29.

6.) 8th Annual Advances in Neurology event focuses on movement disorders, MS
May 21, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Churchill Downs, Derby and Oaks rooms, 700 Central Avenue; UofL students, faculty, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physicians are free, public is $35
This event is held in conjunction with the annual spring meeting of the Commonwealth Neurological Society. This year’s focus will be on Movement Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis, two of the more challenging therapeutic areas in neurology.

7.) Oaks, Derby to force parking, traffic changes around Belknap Campus
Traffic and parking on and around Belknap Campus will be affected by the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby, May 6 and 7. Parking will not be allowed on Third Street or Floyd Street all day on Friday until 9 p.m. and Saturday until 11 p.m. No through traffic will be allowed from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. either day on Central Avenue from Taylor Boulevard to Floyd Street. And from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. both days, all southbound traffic on Third Street will be rerouted onto Eastern Parkway.

8.) Oaks & Derby UofL Parking at PJCS
May 6 and 7, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Platinum Lot T
Staff and Student parking rate $10 with valid UofL parking hangtag
UofL Staff and students can park at PJCS for $10 in the Platinum T lot for both Oaks and Derby. The T lot is located in the SE corner of Central Ave. and Floyd Street. Access to the lot is via the Floyd St. entry.

9.) CGSA Derby Lecture Series presents A&S Dean at University of Nebraska
May 9, 1:30- 3 p.m., Gheens Science Hall & Rauch Planetarium; Free
Joseph S. Francisco, PhD, the Elmer H. and Ruby M. Cordes Chair and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will give two lectures. His first lecture is more technical, titled: “Structure and Reactivity of Radical-Molecule Complexes: New Frontier in Atmospheric Chemistry.” Francisco will speak in place of Dr. Alan Heeger, who had to cancel his scheduled appearance.

Joseph S. Francisco, PhD, the Elmer H. and Ruby M. Cordes Chair and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will give two lectures. His second lecture is geared toward a general audience, titled: “From Earth’s Atmosphere to Planetary Engineering of Mars: An Adventure in Chemistry.” Francisco will speak in place of Dr. Alan Heeger, who had to cancel.

11.) Perioperative UltraSound and Echocardiography Workshop planned
May 14, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Paris Simulation Center, Instructional Building B, School of Medicine; UofL Physicians: $200, non-physicians: $100, UofL residents: $50
This one-day course provides participants with practical knowledge and skills on perioperative use of ultrasound to solve daily practical and clinical challenges. This unique ultrasound workshop incorporates extensive hands-on scanning with live models, state-of-the-art TEE simulator mannequin and inanimate phantoms.
