    DID YOU KNOW?

    The University of Louisville Libraries’ Digital Collections recently added the Martin F. Schmidt photos of Louisville, ca. 1956-1966. These 573 color snapshots document buildings in downtown Louisville in the 1950s and 1960s, before urban renewal and federal highway construction made major changes to the architectural landscape.

    1.) Department of Communication holding silent auction for UofL Cares

    Nov. 18, noon, to Dec. 1, 3 p.m.; 310 Strickler Hall

    We will take bids on three wonderful baskets from Nov. 18 to Dec. 1. Items include (but are not limited to): hotel stays; Actors Theatre tickets; Louisville Orchestra tickets; Texas Roadhouse dinner pass; and Muhammad Ali Center tickets. All proceeds go to the UofL Cares Campaign.

    2.) Visit the HSC Fitness Center’s open house today

    Nov. 18, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    With the weather changing, inside looks like a great place to exercise. Check out the HSC Fitness Center, 416 Chestnut St., as your on-campus option. Healthy snacks and drinks will be served during two open houses Nov. 18. The center recently installed $100,000 of new cardio equipment including treadmills, climbers, elliptical trainers, rowers and bikes. Discover the group fitness classes, free weights, weight stack section, locker rooms and all the new cardio equipment.  A UofL ID is required.

    Additional Information: The center is open from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

    3.) Help the Angel Tree for homeless animals

    Through Dec. 19; Houchens, lower level and Dental School

    Calling all animal lovers. Want a new way to help out this holiday season? How about donating needed items for homeless animals stuck in the shelter? Drop off items under the tree in Houchens Lower Level or at the Dental School at HSC. If dropping off gift cards or cash, please see Julie in Room 008LL in Houchens.     4.) Time to submit your tuition remission request

    The Spring 2015 term is approaching! If you or your dependent(s) have already registered for Spring 2015 classes, please submit a tuition remission request for the Spring 2015 semester here.

    5.) Provost accepting online nominations for advising awards

    Through Nov. 21, the Office of the University Provost is accepting nominations for the 26th Annual Provost’s Awards for Exemplary Advising. Nominations/letters of support can be submitted online. Eligible for nomination are full-time faculty members whose primary advising responsibility is advising undergraduate students and professional advisors whose primary and current job responsibility is assigned to the academic advisement of undergraduate students.

    6.) Attend the iClicker Demo

    Please join the Delphi Center and Glen Garrett from iClicker for lunch and a session about iClicker/iClickerGo. iClicker is a tool that allows students to submit answers for in-class polling, and iClickerGo adds the convenience of using a smart phone or laptop as a substitute clicker. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required.

    7.) Faculty: Last chance to register: Approach to course (re)design

    Nov. 20, noon to 2 p.m., Delphi Center, Ekstrom Library

    This interactive session will provide you with the opportunity to think through the fundamentals of course design in a new way. Join Michelle Rodems and Aimee Greene as they help you explore how to redesign or re-envision a course you are teaching, or tackle the design of a brand new course. A light lunch will be served.

    The Richard and Constance Lewis Fellowships and Scholarships in Latin American and Iberian Studies provide funds for faculty development for the purpose of enhancing the knowledge of and interest in Latin American and Iberian subjects at UofL, as well as funds to support student study abroad in Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
