    Gary the Redbird, whose real name is Gary Budd, has officially been named the national winner of USA Today’s Best Fan Ever Contest. Gary the Redbird was featured alongside UofL legend Darrell Griffith in Get Healthy Now’s Mannequin Challenge

    Dr. Anita Barbee, a professor at the Kent School of Social Work and a Distinguished University Scholar, has been nominated to become a Fellow in the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. She has accepted the nomination and will be inducted into the Academy at the Society of Social Work Research AGM in January of 2017.

    As part of the 2017 reaffirmation process with our accrediting agency SACS-COC, the university is developing a new quality enhancement plan (QEP) and the latest version of the QEP plan is available online. An online survey is also available.

    ‘Liberal Democracy: An African Critique,’ by Reginald M.J. Oduor

    November 28, 3 p.m., Humanities Bldg., Room 300
    Reginald M.J. Oduor, PhD,University of Nairobi, Kenya, will present an African critique of liberal democracy. Drawing from Recent African scholarship, he advances the view that the imposition of liberal democracy on post-colonial African states has stifled the growth of models of democracy that draw from indigenous African political thought.

    Studies

    Healthy blood donors needed for study

    IRB #96.0191; Baxter I Building lab 117
    Donors are needed for research studies of the function of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell responsible for destroying bacteria) and how diseases affect this function. Donors must be healthy, at least 18 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be medication free. Amount of blood drawn will vary anywhere from 50mls to 450mls and $30 per 100 ml (or part thereof) up to a maximum of $120 will be paid. Blood donation is performed in the morning at the Nephrology research laboratories of Kenneth McLeish, MD, located in the Donald E Baxter Research Building and takes approximately 20 minutes.

    The Get Healthy Now Wellness Center closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

    The GHN Wellness Center will close early on Wednesday, November 23 at 2 p.m., and will be closed on Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25, in observance of Thanksgiving. Normal hours of operation will resume Saturday, November 26 (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
