    1.) Nature workshop free for UofL attendees

    Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St.

    Free admission for UofL faculty, staff and students

    How can our cities stand up to the ecological and economic challenges of our time? UofL law professor Tony Arnold will tackle that topic in an Oct. 3 Idea Festival workshop at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St. Jennifer Molnar of the Nature Conservancy and John Gagel of Lexmark International also will speak. UofL faculty, staff and students can attend the 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. workshop for free.

    2.) Nominate graduate students for December commencement awards

    Deadline Oct. 3

    During the December commencement events, the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies will recognize graduating students for their outstanding achievements. Students may be nominated by any graduate faculty member. For descriptions of all awards and for the nomination form, click here.

    3.) Register in advance for the Women Center Empowerment Luncheon

    Nov. 13, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., University Club; Register by Nov. 7

    $50 per person ($400 for table of eight)

    Registrations are being accepted for the Women’s Center annual Empowerment Luncheon. The guest speaker will be Alice K. Houston, president and CE0 of Houston-Johnson, Inc. In addition, there will be presentations of the Tachau Gender Equity Award; Nichols Professional Development Award and the Women’s Empowerment Award.

    Will your unit host summer camps for school-aged kids? We want to know so that we can promote them online and in a special pull-out section of the winter/spring issue of UofL Magazine.     5.) FirstBuild holding free Firebase class

    Oct. 6, 3 to 5 p.m., Firstbuild, 333 Brandeis Ave.

    6.) African American Male Initiative Scholarship Day at J Gumbos next week

    Oct. 10, 11 a.m., J Gumbos on Belknap Campus

    The Cultural Center will be hosting a scholarship day for its African American Male Initiative. All who eat at J Gumbos on this day and sign in will have a portion of their ticket donated to the AAMI scholarship fund.

    7.) Check out the new transfer student website

    The Office of Admissions has redesigned the Transfer and Adult Student Services website. We are proud to unveil what we know will be a much improved resource to students looking to transfer to UofL. This site also includes information about the Office of Military and Veteran Services and ULtra @ JCTC. We are asking that campus partners please check any references to the old website to avoid broken or dead links.

    8.) Traumatic Brain Injury Symposium CME event

    Oct. 10, 8 a.m., Rudd Heart and Lung Building, Great Halls 1 and 2, Conference Center

    Residents, medical students, fellows $15; all others: $25

    The neurosurgery and neurology departments, along with KentuckyOne Health, are hosting a TBI Symposium featuring keynote speaker Dr. Julian Bailes. Other physicians and health care professions will also discuss various TBI related topics. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and lectures start at 8. Breakfast and lunch will be served. 4 CME credits and 4.8 CEU nurse credits are available. Athletic trainer and physical therapy CE credit has been applied for and is pending.
