    State of the University

    1.) State of the University events recognize faculty excellence

    A ceremony to honor outstanding faculty and a dedication of Charles H. Parrish Jr. Freedom Park highlight activities leading up to the State of the University Address Wednesday, Sept. 16. President James Ramsey will deliver the annual address at 2:30 p.m. in the Comstock Concert Hall, School of Music. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

    2.) Tired of PowerPoint? Explore how SoftChalk can help

    Oct. 1, noon to 1 p.m. (note: lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. Presenters will also stay an extra 30 minutes until 1:30 p.m. for additional hands-on practice and support), Delphi Center, Ekstrom Library

    Are you and your students bored with PowerPoint? Do you want to increase students’ learning outside of class time? Are you interested in making your blended or online course content more engaging for students? In this session, Kent School of Social Work faculty member Larry Michalczyk will describe how he uses an innovative program called SoftChalk Create to transition beyond traditional teaching methods. Lunch is served, so pre-registration is required.

    3.) Become the physician you always wanted to be

    The Post-bac Pre-med Program is for college graduates and career changers interested in going to medical school to become a physician but lack the pre-med requirements and preparation for admission. To learn more about our program, please attend one of our information sessions or schedule an appointment with the Program Director. Our September sessions begin on Sat., Sept. 12 @ 12:30 and on Mon., Sept. 14 @ 5:30 p.m. in the Ekstrom Library, room 254. Registration is not required.

    4.) Reminder to register for the Family & Friends Campus Visit

    5.) Infant scientists wanted

    9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Davidson, Room 314

    The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) is conducting several studies on infant face perception. Infants who are between 3 and 8 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus. Infants will receive a UofL t-shirt or bib for participating.

    7.) The business of college sports

    Kristi Dosh, the “Sports Biz Miss” who has provided material for ESPN, Forbes, Bleacher Report and other outlets, will give a public lecture about the business of college sports. She recently wrote Saturday Millionaires, and will have a book signing prior to the talk. Refreshments will be provided. Cosponsored by Mortar Board National Senior Honorary and Student-Athletes of Color Combining Opportunities and Responsibility for Excellence, with funding by the Club Programming Committee.
