FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Craig Grapperhaus, professor of Chemistry and chair of the Department of Chemistry, has been named a research exemplar in the STEM sector. Grapperhaus’ research in coordination chemistry, the study of compounds with a metal ion surrounded by neutral or negatively charged donor ligands, has significant implications for renewable energy, according to the Professionalism and Integrity in Research website.

Miscellaneous Red Cross sets up dedicated link for UofL donationsThe Kentucky Red Cross has set up a dedicated link for UofL community donations toward recovery efforts related to hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Donations can be made online.
Oval parking information for GameDayESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast live from the Oval Saturday prior to the UofL/Clemson football game. Starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the reserved parking lot south of Grawemeyer Hall will be closed. It will remain closed until Sunday morning. On Saturday, the Oval and buildings located on the Oval will be closed. The Oval will re-open late Saturday afternoon, once the crowd has cleared. Until 2 p.m. Saturday, free parking will be available to the public in the green lot across from Reynolds Lofts on Third Street.
Fan information for Saturday’s Football game at Papa John’s Cardinal StadiumAn hour earlier entrance to parking lots, improved security measures, and multiple special events are among the items that University of Louisville football fans will notice when the Cardinals kick off their first home game of the season on Sept. 16 against Clemson at 8:12 p.m. Fans with reserved parking passes in the UofL lots surrounding the stadium can enter the lots beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, a special early entrance one hour ahead of the regular five-hour opening time for the parking lots.
UofL Alert System testing to take place ThursdayThe UofL Alert System will be tested at 10 a.m. on Thursday September 14, 2017. The UofL Alert system will be activated to test our notification system. No actions should be taken in response to the test. Testing will involve emails, text messages, VOIP phones and outdoor warning speakers. Questions should be directed to Dennis Sullivan at 852-2948.

Call for Gender Equity/Professional Development Award, Nominations & ApplicationsNominations and applications for The Mary K. Tachau Gender Equity Award and the M. Celeste Nichols Professional Development Award are being accepted through Oct. 6. The Equity Award goes to a member of the UofL community whose work has directly furthered women’s equality and gender equity. Cardinal Preview DayOctober 21, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Belknap Campus High school students and their families are invited to Cardinal Preview Day, UofL’s largest annual open house for prospective students. Throughout the day, visitors will explore campus with a student-led tour, attend academic open houses and an information fair, learn more about financial aid and scholarships, hear from current students about their own unique experiences, and more. Research funding opportunity availableSeptember 14 Pilot project grants from The Center for Restorative Medicine are available for seeding of novel research to facilitate additional funding, foster new collaborative partnerships and/or support junior faculty. We anticipate funding three pilot projects of $50,000. Faculty leadership will review for consistency with the mission of the Center for Restorative Medicine and advisory board will review proposals for innovation and scientific merit.
