Free flu shots continue today in the SAC Multipurpose Room, previously scheduled to be in the Red Barn. Flu shots are free to students, faculty, and staff ($5 for retirees). A full schedule and a consent form are online. Download, print and complete the consent form for fastest service. You must have your UofL ID with you to get a free flu shot.
2.) UNative American Student Org and Interfaith Paths to Peace present ‘An Evening with Chief McCullough’

The Native American Student Organization and Interfaith Paths to Peace Present International Spiritual Leader, Sun Dance Chief, and recognized Medicine Man Chief Steve McCullough. Chief McCullough will address his life including his work with the American Indian Movement and his involvement at the occupation of Wounded Knee in the early 1970s, his work internationally, and the need for awareness regarding the DAPL and the dangers it brings to all peoples.

4.) UofL Women’s Center hosts collection drive for the Kristy Love Foundation
The UofL Women’s Center is collecting clothes and toiletries for the Kristy Love Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women addicted to drugs and alcohol. The drive continues through Oct. 14. For a list of items needed, drop-off locations and times, email Phyllis M. Webb.

5.) Clothing Exchange Project for Children underway
The Women’s Center Student Parent Association Clothing Exchange Project continues through Oct. 14. New or gently used infant and children clothing and other items for the children of student-parents plus toiletries for student-parents are being accepted at key locations on campus.

Nominations are now being accepted from faculty and staff for qualified students to complete the Student Orientation Staff (SOS) for 2017. Twelve Ali Scholars traveled to Peru in May to learn about the social justice issues of indigenous peoples and African descendent communities. 15.) Mathematics Colloquium to be held at a new time

Professor Xuwen Zhu of the University of Louisville Mathematics Department will present “Finite mixture modeling and model-based clustering.” Applications of finite mixture modeling are found in almost all research areas due to its flexibility in describing a wide range of phenomena. We discuss model-based clustering under the assumption of a 1-1 correspondence between clusters and model components; each data group can be seen as a sample from some underlying distribution. From the sumptuous posters of Toulouse-Lautrec’s Belle Époque, through propaganda posters of the early-mid-20th century, and on to the iconic pop culture posters of the 1960’s and 70’s, posters reflect the society that produces them. Join Professor Steven Skaggs, head of the Graphic Design BFA track at UofL, as he puts the poster in historical context and leads a conversation with Julius Friedman, the artist behind Frazier’s newest exhibition, “Julius Friedman: Fifty Year Retrospective.”

17.) macOS Sierra update and EndNote suggestions
In preparation for Apple’s release of MacOS Sierra on September 20, we have been testing various versions of EndNote. Through our testing, we discovered some issues with the EndNote PDF viewer. These issues have been reported to Apple, but in the meantime, we recommend that you DO NOT upgrade to macOS Sierra.

Join us for a Green Apple Day of Service in UofL’s organic garden, co-sponsored by Group Recycling aAnd Sustainable Solutions (GRASS) and the Kentucky chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. We’ll tackle some bigger projects like re-staining our wooden benches, raised beds and rain barrel platforms. The event begins with a guest lecture from Stephen Bartlett, executive director of Sustainable Agriculture of Louisville, as part of our workshop series. No experience necessary.
