Did You Know?
The University of Louisville seal features Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom. It has been used since “at least the early 1850s,” however the current design has been used since the early 1950s. It was designed by Kentucky artist Victor Hammer, who also designed the seal for the City of Louisville.

1.) Free flu shots start next week on the Health Science Campus
Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Abell Administration Building, Room 110, HSC
The first flu shot clinic will be on Monday, Sept. 12. Students, faculty, and staff can get free flu shots through Campus Health Services ($5 for retirees). A full schedule and a consent form are available online. Download, print and complete the consent form for the fastest service. You must have your UofL ID with you to get a free flu shot.
2.) Save the Date for the UofL Women Center Empowerment Luncheon
November 16, 11:30 a.m., University Club; $50 per person
The 14th Annual Women ‘s Center Empowerment Luncheon is one in a series of events focusing on social justice this year as the office celebrates its 25th Anniversary. Carla F. Wallace, social justice activist will be the keynote luncheon speaker. Special awards will be presented. Make reservations by Nov. 9 via email or phone.

The university is developing a new quality enhancement plan (QEP) as part of the 2017 reaffirmation process with our accrediting agency SACS-COC. The university-wide QEP Development Committee invites the campus community to learn more and give feedback at this month’s all-campus info session on September 21, from 1-2 p.m. in Shumaker room 139. The deadline for the 2016-17 Grad Student Community Engagement Academy has been extended to Monday, September 12. The Community Engagement Academy is a year-long series of sessions designed to help students learn foundational information about community engagement, as well as how to apply this knowledge in research and practice. 13.) Garden Commons Workday scheduled
September 9, 2- 3 p.m., Garden Commons, by the UofL Cultural Center
We invite you to join us in our sustainable, student lead garden commons for another workday. We ask students, UofL staff, and local residents to volunteer in the upkeep of our wonderful garden and to learn about sustainable agriculture and growing your own food right here on campus. On this workday we will be planting lettuce and spinach for the late fall/early winter harvest. We suggest you bring a pair of gloves, a water bottle, and wear clothes that can get dirty.
