CHS medical and psychiatric services have moved to new facilities at Cardinal Station, 215 Central Avenue, from the old Student Health and Counseling Center building near the Student Activities Center.
This move has been five years in the making, said Phillip Bressoud, CHS executive director. We’re very excited about offering this new, expanded space to students to help them with their health needs.
The new facility includes a large waiting room, internal waiting room for allergy injections, 10 exam rooms, four psychiatry offices, staff offices and improved parking.
Better work flow and a dedicated internal waiting area will mean patients can be seen more efficiently and spend less time waiting, Bressoud said. The improvements should lead to a better overall patient experience.
The Belknap CHS has about 10,000 patient visits each year for such primary care services as physical exams, acute and chronic medical problems, travel medicine services, immunizations and allergy shots. The new facility also will allow on-site x-ray.
In addition to CHS, the Cardinal Station complex also houses a 20/20 Eye Care Center (which offers UofL student discount), Jewish Hospital Frazier Rehab physical therapy and subspecialists from University Physicians Associates, an extra convenience for students who are referred to a specialist.
CHS medical and student psychiatric services had been in its previous location for 40 years. Health Promotion and PEACC, which are part of CHS, remain in that building.
Visitors to the Cardinal Station may park in the visitors’ spaces at the front door. Students also may ride the Cardinal Shuttle and get off at the new Third and Central bus stop in front of Cardinal Station. Students who are too ill to drive or ride the shuttle Cardinal Station should call CHS at 852-6479. This number also can be used to get more information or to schedule an appointment.
