Those are just some of the business start-up ideas budding entrepreneurs will unveil at the 2014 Brown-Forman Cardinal Challenge Feb. 14-15 at the Marriott Downtown and Kentucky International Convention Center.
The University of Louisville’s College of Business is hosting the competition for students from colleges and universities in nine U.S. states and Canada.
Twelve teams of 37 student entrepreneurs will vie for first place at the event, which carries a cash prize of $15,000, an invitation to the Global Venture Labs Investment Competition May 1-3 at the AT&T Conference Center in Austin, Texas, and a “Launch in Louisville” business start-up package valued at more than $100,000.
On Feb. 15, the students will give first-round presentations from 7:45 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. in Salons A/B, C/D, F and G at the Marriott. Fast-pitch presentations will take place from 1:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and final-round presentations from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., both in the convention center’s conference theater. All of the presentations are free and open to the public.
Judges will name the winners at a 6 p.m. awards reception in Salon E of the Marriott’s Kentucky Ballroom.
UofL’s team, Appro Therapeutics, will market its plan for Asserta-B, a therapy for certain types of colon, lung, prostate and breast cancer that includes a biomarker to predict patient response. Team members are Melissa Buddeke, Christopher Barton, Will Morris, Divya Jagadish and Jordan Davis.
