“Despicable Me” will be the first film in this summer’s free, public Cards under the Stars film series, which resumes Friday, June 10. The once-monthly films will be shown on the Natural Science lawn next to Grawemeyer Hall.
Faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community were asked to vote on UofL’s Facebook page for their favorite family oriented movies. With more than 325 cast, the winners are:
- “Despicable Me” (June 10) – The world’s most infamous super villain plans to pull off the greatest heist in history – he plans to steal the moon — but his efforts are sabotaged when he encounters an even greater challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.
- “Tangled” (July 15) – The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower. With the help of a runway thief who has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time – and to find out who she really is.
- “Toy Story 3” (Aug. 5) – In this latest installment of the Toy Story saga, the toys are mistakenly delivered to a day care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college. It’s up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren’t abandoned and to return home.
The movies will be shown on a large inflatable screen. There will be inflatable rides, musical entertainment and other children’s activities before the movies start. Sodexo, UofL’s dining services provider, will sell food and drinks. Patrons also may bring picnic baskets, coolers and lawn chairs or blankets.
Activities will begin at about 6:30 p.m. Movies will begin at dusk.
