The people asking for donations may say that they are Hare Krishna or with another organization, said Lt. Col. Kenny Brown, assistant UofL police chief. They ask individuals for their credit card numbers and write them down or scan them into a cell phone.
If you give them your number, you have given them unlimited access to the use of your credit card, Brown said. Your credit card number may be sold to other people for use.
Anyone who is solicited in this manner should call University Police at 852-6111, Brown said.
Do not give a stranger unlimited access to your credit card, he said.
