Engage Lead Serve Board, American International Relations Club and the Peace, Conflict, and Social Justice program will sponsor the Hunger Banquet at 6 p.m. in the Red Barn.
Participants in the event will each be assigned to different world income levels. They’ll be given a proportionate amount of food based on their income to highlight the disparities.
“We want to inspire empathy in people. World hunger is very abstract because a lot of us don’t see it. The Hunger Banquet will make it more personalized to participants,” said Cecily Kennedy, ELSB global initiatives committee director. “To put people in a position where they understand just a fraction of what it’s like not to have a choice in what you eat could be really profound.”
Speakers at the event include Justin Mog, assistant to the provost for sustainability and a representative from Dare to Care.
The event is free and open to the public. Canned or non-perishable food will be accepted at the door.
