The UofL Hite Art Institute presents “African Art from the Margaret and Frederick Merida Collection” from July 25-Sept. 13 at the Schneider Hall Galleries. The exhibit showcases 40 pieces of art and artifacts from various countries including Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Donated by the Meridas in 2012 in honor of Hite Art Institute faculty member Dario Covi, the collection includes cultural objects used in rituals, entertainment and domestic life. The show, curated by Assistant Professor Pearlie Johnson, is the first time the collection will be displayed in its entirety.
