A.P. J. Abdul Kalam, 11th president of India, will present Ignited Minds: Unleashing the Power of Youth at 1 p.m. in the School of Music’s Comstock Concert Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
For security reasons, all guests should be seated 15 minutes before the event begins.
India’s president from 2002 to 2007, Kalam has pushed his country to invest in education; he has presented plans to develop that country into a knowledge superpower by 2020.
Kalam is an internationally respected scientist. An aeronautical engineer by training, he helped develop his country’s space and missile programs. He advocates continued development of India’s nuclear program as part of an effort to establish the country as an upcoming superpower. He also promotes information technology as a key to India’s development as a nation.
His on-campus lecture is sponsored by the Office of the President, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and the McConnell Center.
While on campus, Kalam will meet with university officials and students from organizations including the McConnell Center.
Kalam is visiting Louisville through a partnership among UofL, Greater Louisville International Professionals, the India Community Foundation and the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Those agencies are combining to present an evening program, U.S., India and the World: 2020 and Beyond, at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville.
