For the second year, the University of Louisville Alumni Association will host Homecoming on Main Street, a free, public gathering at the plaza.
The event begins at 11 a.m. and includes music, inflatables, face painting, a rock-climbing wall, vendor booths, games and a beer garden. Many downtown restaurants will offer specials during the event. This year’s theme is “Return to the Nest.”
UofL officials said the first downtown homecoming block party was their most popular alumni event in 2011, bringing thousands of people to the KFC Yum! Center.
Key events for the 2012 party are:
- Jumbotron outside in the plaza of the KFC Yum! Center showing the men’s football away game as they face off against University of Pittsburgh, 11 a.m.
- Pep rally with athletic team representatives, UofL Marching Band, spirit squads and the Cardinal Bird, 2:30 p.m.
- Red-white men’s basketball scrimmage inside the KFC Yum! Center, 4 p.m.
Tickets to the basketball scrimmage are $10 for the lower side and corner and $5 for the end zone and can be purchased through the UofL Ticket Office, 502-852-5863, or through Ticketmaster online.
The UofL homecoming football game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20, with the Cards competing against the University of South Florida. The kickoff time has not been announced.
