LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Inscope, a University of Louisville College of Business graduate student team marketing a wireless laryngoscope, won second place in the Rice Business Plan Competition April 16-18 in Houston.
Team members Maggie Galloway, Mary Nan Mallory, Adam Casson and Will Coburn claimed a cash and investment prize of $133,000 at the Rice University-sponsored contest. They competed against student teams from 41 other business schools in the United States and abroad.
All four students are pursuing an entrepreneurship master of business administration degree at UofL. Entrepreneurship professor Van Clouse is team coach.
Inscope is perfecting the OneScope, an airway management device that can be used to safely intubate patients in ambulances and helicopters as well as in hospitals and surgery centers. Mallory, a physician and professor in UofL’s School of Medicine, co-invented the device and the university’s Office of Technology Transfer licensed its technology.
The team competes next in the Global Venture Labs Investment Competition May 6-10 in Austin, Texas.
Inscope tied for third place and won first prize in the elevator pitch event at the Oregon New Venture Championship contest earlier this month, claiming $4,000. The team also won $15,000 and a business startup package worth $100,000 at the Brown-Forman Cardinal Challenge in February.
