Brian Buford, Assistant Provost for Diversity and LGBT Center Director, has been appointed to the American Red Cross National Diversity Advisory Council. The council is made up of 16 diversity-thought leaders, as well as other community leaders and professionals engaged with diverse communities.
Buford will serve an initial one-year term, renewable after 2017.
As expressed by its charter, the role of the council is to “…advise the Board, the President and CEO, and the Chief Diversity Officer of the Corporation on relevant strategic issues brought before the Council related to diversity and inclusiveness and to foster exemplary diversity initiatives and partnerships at the American Red Cross. The Council is also a forum to promote diversity and share best practices and information on the many diversity matters as they relate to Red Cross business imperatives and its mission.”
“I was honored to be invited to join the National Diversity Advisory Council and I will hopefully have the opportunity to share some of the best practices from U of L and the Louisville community with others across the country,” Buford said.
