At a Dec. 8 ceremony, Nucleus CEO Vickie Yates Brown heralded the arrival of the new companies and nonprofits to the Nucleus family that already is occupying the former MedCenter 3 building in downtown Louisville. The building now has 23 tenants and is running out of space.
Gone is a first-floor conference room. Nucleus converted that into office space, and Louisville Metro Mayor Greg Fischer joked at the event that the lobby area would be next to go.
Fischer and University of Louisville President James Ramsey both spoke at the ceremony of the importance of Nucleus as a catalyst for innovative companies and their ideas.
“We feel like proud parents today,” Ramsey said.
Yates Brown said that she credits Ramsey with having the vision to create a downtown research area around the old Haymarket site on Market Street. Right now, that land is a construction site as workers put up a 200,000-square-foot building.
Nucleus is managing that property, as well, and it is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2012.
Nucleus is an arm of the University of Louisville Foundation.
