The 10 a.m.-3 p.m. event, co-sponsored by the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, will be in Room 100, Bingham Humanities Building, on UofL’s Belknap Campus.
Symposium topics and speakers include:
–“Mexican Architecture in the Face of European and American Currents of Modernism,” Georg Leidenberger, Morgan visiting professor at UofL and modern Mexican and American history professor at Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana in Mexico City
–“Myspace: God, Humanity and the World in Eero Saarinen’s Christian Architecture,” Jeanne Halgren Kilde, religious studies director at University of Minnesota
–“Naked Airport: Aviation and the Modernist Dream,” Alastair Gordon, contributing editor at The Wall Street Journal’s WSJ Magazine and editorial director at Gordon de Vries Studio
–“Masters of Architecture, Masters of Sex,” Mina Marefat, Georgetown University professor and curator of the KMAC’s current exhibit, “Eero Saarinen: A Reputation for Innovation”

There also is a pre-symposium tour of the KMAC’s exhibition “Eero Saarinen: A Reputation for Innovation” at 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at the 715 W. Main St. museum; a 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17 cocktail reception will follow another tour of the American Life Building, the 471 W. Main St. structure designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
