LOUISVILLE, Ky. – An annual program to provide woman with low-cost mammograms in celebration of Mother’s Day has expanded to include colon cancer screening for both sexes.

Mother’s Day Mammograms will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at the Kroger at Lyles Mall, 2710 W. Broadway. Women age 40 and over without insurance will receive the services at no cost. People with Medicare, Medicaid or private health insurance will have their plans billed.

Mother’s Day Mammograms are sponsored by Kentucky African Americans Against Cancer, a program of the Kentucky Cancer Program at the University of Louisville, with the support of Louisville Metro Council. Councilwomen Jessica Green, Cheri Bryan Hamilton and Mary C. Woolridge will be at the event to meet and greet participants.

Appointments in advance are requested by calling 502-852-6318.

Mammograms and colon cancer screening services will be provided in the Horses and Hope Cancer Screening Van, managed by the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and KentuckyOne Health. Mother’s Day Mammograms previously were provided in a van equipped for mammography only. The new van, launched in 2015, allows for seven different types of cancer screenings.

Participants also will receive cancer prevention information and free gifts, and entertainment will be provided with a live remote broadcast by WLOU/PraisePower 104.7.
