From 9 a.m. to noon on game day, volunteers from Miami and Louisville will work together to assemble soap and shampoo kits for victims of typhoon Haiyan. Volunteers are expected to compile as many as 2,000 kits, which will then be shipped to the Philippines.
The community service project will be at 400 Pittman St. in Orlando. It is being organized by Clean the World, a nonprofit organization that recycles hotel amenities, in a dual effort to keep items out of landfills while also improving sanitation in areas of need.
Up to 100 volunteers—50 from each university—will participate in the project. UofL participants must sign up at http://louisville.edu/studentaffairs/serviceproject by Dec. 23. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the site.
