The meetings are intended to help Louisville gardeners develop practices to keep their gardens and themselves safe and healthy, create a network of urban gardeners and increase awareness of resources available to support safe urban gardening.
Here’s the meeting schedule:
- Thursday, March 14, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Southwest Government Center
- Thursday, April 18, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at the East Government Center
- Date TBD, at the Downtown Public Library
The series also will include the development of demonstration community gardens, soil testing and the creation of a design and policy guide for individuals and organizations interested in creating a new community garden.
The Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, University of Louisville Center for Environmental Policy and Management (CEPM) and Louisville Metro’s Department of Economic Growth and Innovation are presenting the meetings through funding from a Community Transformation Grant which Louisville Metro received in 2012. The grant is designed to support community-wide strategies to increase healthy eating and active living, chronic disease prevention and tobacco cessation.
