According to the latest report of Louisville’s 55,000 Degrees initiative, 8,051 baccalaureate degrees have been conferred on UofL graduates in the past three years, slightly above UofL’s target and on pace to reach the 28,000-degree goal by 2020.
The 55,000 Degrees initiative was launched by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer to try and increase the number of Louisvillians with college degrees and provide a better educated workforce to potential employers.
The latest report shows the community making progress, but not enough to reach the goal of having 50 percent of adults with college degrees by 2020.
Currently, 41.5 percent of local adults have degrees. UofL’s pledge to produce 28,000 new degrees is more than half the goal set by 55,000 Degrees, which includes eight colleges, universities and technical schools in Louisville and southern Indiana.
