On Feb. 7, the Alumni Association is hosting a fireside conversation in Lexington, Ky., to update alumni and other interested people on faculty collaborations between the J.B. Speed School of Engineering and the School of Medicine.
Toni Ganzel, interim dean of the School of Medicine, will talk about recent initiatives.
Other speakers will be:
- Mark Slaughter, professor and chief, Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, School of Medicine; division chief, Artificial Organs and Circulatory Assist Devices, Cardiovascular Innovation Institute; and surgeon, University of Louisville Physicians
- Robert Keynton, chair, Department of Bioengineering in the J.B. Speed School of Engineering and investigator, Artificial Organs and Circulatory Assist Devices, Cardiovascular Innovation Institute
- Steven Koenig, professor of bioengineering, J.B. Speed School of Engineering and investigator, Artificial Organs and Circulatory Assist Devices, Cardiovascular Innovation Institute
- Mickey Ising, second-year medical student who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in bioengineering
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and go until 7:30 p.m. in the Colonial A Room of the Crowne Plaza Hotel-The Campbell House, 1375 S. Broadway in Lexington. Admission is free. It will include a meet-and-greet reception and question-and-answer session.
Bioengineering is a relatively new engineering discipline that uses traditional engineering theory and processes to analyze and solve problems in biology and medicine.
