LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The man in charge of information technology for The Pillsbury Co. and its parent company’s North American operations will speak at a University of Louisville event Oct. 5.
Alex Gibbons, Pillsbury’s first senior vice president and chief information officer, will discuss “Internet Technologies: Exiting the Hype, Entering the Promise.” He is the U of L Speed Scientific School’s 2001 Industrial Board of Advisers luncheon speaker.
The 11:30 a.m. event will be in the Cochran Room of The Galt House, Fourth Street and River Road. Reservations are due Sept. 28 for the public event. The cost is $18, or $180 for a 10-person table.
Gibbons joined Pillsbury in 1997 as its first senior vice president, chief information officer, and is on the board of directors for Pillsbury Co. and The Pillsbury Foundation. He also is CIO of Pillsbury’s U.S. corporate parent, Diageo Inc.; as CIO, he manages North American computer and telecommunications operations for Pillsbury, Burger King, Guinness Brewing and United Distillers and Vintners.
The Minneapolis resident has been a strategy adviser and acting chief technology officer of Transora, a global “e-marketplace” for the consumer packaged goods industry, since its inception last year. He previously worked for GE Capital in e-business development and led the worldwide management information systems for Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. in New York. He also worked in management information systems for CBS Inc. and was a founder of the Prodigy online service.
